Helping Kin Vet scale with software

Kin Vet Community is a fast-growing veterinary care group elevating the standard of pet care in the UK. They acquired 20 practices in the last year and plan to go to 50 in the next 12 months.

Kin needed a central capability to onboard new practices and software architecture to support their growth ambition. Software and Change delivered a Continuous Improvement Review, a change roadmap for 2025 and IT Director support with implementation.

Kin Vet is a community of passionate professionals committed to caring for pets and people

CEO and vet Ciara Mc Cormack is leading a team with a depth of expertise and ambition to grow. They are building a group truly vet-led and focused on clinical excellence.

Kin were looking for IT and software acumen and support to provide a reliable service across the group from executive, to central services, to the practices and their vets, nurses and ultimately customers and their pets.

IT and software had been a constraint on growth. With Software and Change’s support it quickly became an enabler.

Making key software decisions to support rapid growth

Kin needed a central service supporting the executive team, operational leaders and the practices. The speed of acquisitions was driving decisions about software and fast formation of partnerships. Were they right for the future as well as now? They needed to develop priority change, control and capability.

The big risk was investing in or committing to solutions that were sub-optimal or limited their ability to scale, and ultimately would disrupt the growth and ambitions of the group.

Software and Change were referred to Kin through trusted advocates, initially to check the response was appropriate and key decisions were sound.

Continuous Improvement Review +

Software and Change delivered an advisory service initially, supporting the Operations Director in ensuring appropriate IT support was delivered by the Managed Service Provider and software implementation was successful. As Kin grew and Operations priorities increased, Kin asked Jonty to step into a Fractional IT Director role to run their IT and software service.

Jonty took responsibility for managing the MSP, reporting into the Ops Director initially and joining the executive board. Louise supported the Executive of CEO, CFO, HR and M&A directors, now including Jonty as IT Director, to build a Change Roadmap for 2025.

From software constraint to software enablement

Software and Change helped Kin achieve clarity on their priorities, and deliver the software and IT element of the Change Roadmap for 2025. They created a great explainer to engage the leadership team, spurring their energy, enthusiasm and commitment to support and deliver it. Software and Change and Kin are united in their continuing partnership.
